Dune HD has listed alpha build 261021_0117_r25, with experimental full decoding of Dolby Vision Profile 7 FEL video. It is a development release for testing, rather than the latest stable firmware for everyday viewing.
What changes for movie files?
According to Dune HD’s alpha release notes, the new processing uses residual picture data from the FEL enhancement layer, alongside the Dolby Vision RPU metadata used previously. That distinction matters when reading claims about “FEL support”: handling its metadata and decoding its picture information describe different behaviour.
This is a manufacturer-announced experimental feature. We have not tested this build or measured its picture output, and the announcement should not be read as a promise of a visible improvement in every film or home cinema.
Solo 8K and Pro 8K Plus: check the release channel
Two models in our range, the Dune HD Solo 8K and Pro 8K Plus, appear on the r25 alpha download list.
When checked on 29 October 2026, their dedicated firmware pages still identified 260827_0003_r24 as the latest stable version. Use the separate official pages for Solo 8K firmware and Pro 8K Plus firmware to check that status again before making a decision.
Should you install the alpha?
Dune HD warns that alpha builds can contain untested changes and broken functions, and describes them as suitable for testing or use recommended by its support team.
Our advice for an everyday movie setup is to stay with the stable channel unless you have a specific testing reason or guidance from Dune HD support. A new feature is most useful when it solves a problem you actually have; it does not make a working system an urgent upgrade project.
A practical check before changing anything
Record your current firmware version and exact model first. Dune HD directs owners to Setup / Info / Product ID to identify the correct firmware file. Keep that model check separate from the similar-looking product names.
When choosing a media player, compare its supported formats and connections with your display and movie collection. Check the firmware release channel for the exact model so you can choose the features and level of stability that suit your setup.
